Many were shocked this week when Neal Mohan, YouTube’s CEO, mentioned in his annual letter that "TV screens have officially overtaken mobile as the primary device for YouTube viewing in the U.S."
I’ll admit, I was surprised this was such shocking news to so many people. I haven’t watched YouTube on my laptop in years. When I crash on the couch at the end of the day, glass of wine in hand, YouTube is the first thing I fire up on my TV—besides that and the occasional on-the-go mobile viewing, I basically don’t watch it otherwise. (Does this make me more Gen Z????)
Now 20 years in, YouTube’s position in the market is far from an overnight success. Neal called the living room/TV screen the “largest and fastest-growing in the U.S.” when I spoke with him on stage at a conference a few years ago.
You can watch that conversation below… on YouTube. And please, in case you need the nudge, catch up with the times and watch it from a TV.
